Last night we had some food at the restaurant at the accommodation. It was very nice food. The place was very quiet, I think we were the only people stopping there last night.
As always up early like the locals, they are always up and about from about 0500. We feel lazy snoozing in till around until 0600. It makes sense to get up and get most of the day done when it is a bit cooler.
We had to ride down the road about three miles to get our breakfast at a soda. Pinto (rice and beans) with cheese, a coffee and a beautiful papaya smoothie for us both was £14. The food at the sodas is just fantastic. A soda is like a cafe that just makes traditional Costa Rica food. They are cheaper than restaurants that might specialise in food from different countries/cultures. But the food is restaurant quality, really nice. All the meals we have had have been from sodas.
Today was a bit of a transitional ride to get to the coast even though it was full of beautiful forests and gravel roads, we are just a bit eager to lay on a beach and jump in the sea. But we had a lovely breeze most of the day which really makes a difference to the time you can spend in the saddle between rest stops.
We had to cross a river and on this one the river bed was smooth so we went for it. We got about one metre from the end when we lost momentum and went down. The water was very warm. It was about knee deep, so I need to lube the chain tonight.
We took shelter from the heat in several bus stops along the way.
We see horses and cows every day, but this lot were very interested in our Moose.
We saw a few red squirrels today, they had really bright coats, they were adorable. We also see so numerous large iguanas each day, they have become the new chipmunks, as when we were in Canada they were probably the most seen wildlife we encountered on that trip. So it is iguanas on this one.
We had our usual stops at mini stores for our cold water and ice lollies. That is normally a time when we interact with the locals, but they were too engrossed in their Sunday drinking today.
Our accommodation is wonderful, Cabina Luna. About £30 for the night and has everything we need. Kitchen, shower, bed and the luxury non essential air conditioner…. Sea view…. Bonus.
Tomorrow we make our way up the Pacific Coast. We will get to two beaches. One for lunch and we will be camping on the second beach.
