The wildlife on this trip has been amazing and where we are based is just a haven for birds, fish and crocodiles. So today we set ourselves up for a bit of wildlife spectating.
We had our breakfast and had a walk down to the beach. Our route spans the mouth of the river and you can only get across when the tide is out. It does not fully clear a path so we wanted to check how deep it was.

The water is about knee high so we will need to make multiple trips with the bags so we can carry the bike over so as not to submerge the chain in the salty water.
The views were amazing. The crabs were shooting across the sand.

The tide goes in and out very fast here, every time you lift your head you have another view.
Yesterday we met a lovely couple called Beth and Giovanni. He is originally from Costa Rica, he met Beth about thirty years ago and moved to Minneapolis to be with her. They come back here quite a bit to see relatives. They are both teachers and have bought some land on which they hope to build their retirement home. They are into their cycling and have a tandem and have been inspired to do some tandem touring around Costa Rica. They left today and we exchanged details.
When we got back to the hotel I went down to the river to see if I could find anymore crocodiles. I did see one in the distance, but I was also fortunate to see a stingray float past.
We had our usual fruit smoothies by the pool.

The birds kept us engaged, some have the craziest song.
Today I saw:
- Bare Throated Tiger Heron
- Created Caracara
- Brown Pelican
- Green Heron
- Great Kisskadee

So tomorrow back on the road. Apparently we go past some more amazing beaches such as those at San Miguel. It will be day of our most climbing to date. We will be stopping in a town called Puerto Carrillo. At that point we will only have about one hundred miles left and about nine days to get it done, so nice and steady to the end. I don’t like thinking about the end, so no more talk about that!
This evening we had a lovely meal in the hotel restaurant and watched the sky turn a multitude of colours with each blink of the eye.
